NASA Sets Date to Share Stunning Images of Comet 3I/ATLAS

November 17, 2025 — Earthlings eager to catch a glimpse of NASA’s latest images of the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS will have to wait just a little longer. The space agency has announced a live image viewing event scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, at 3 p.m. EST.

During this highly anticipated event, NASA will unveil never-before-seen images of the comet, captured during its close approach to Mars in early October. The release of these images was delayed due to the recent U.S. government shutdown, which lasted from October 1 to November 12.

The images are expected to be the highest resolution yet, surpassing those taken by the Hubble Space Telescope earlier this year. The HiRISE camera aboard NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured these stunning visuals, providing a unique opportunity for scientists and astronomy enthusiasts alike to study the comet’s characteristics and origins.

3I/ATLAS, which was first discovered in July, is notable for being the third interstellar object recorded in our solar system. It is believed to be over 7 billion years old, making it older than our sun. As it travels through space at speeds exceeding 130,000 mph, researchers are keen to analyze its composition, which has been altered by billions of years of exposure to cosmic radiation.

Brandon Specktor, Space and Physics Editor, has detailed how to watch the event and why it matters in his full story. The excitement surrounding 3I/ATLAS continues to grow as scientists prepare to share their findings, shedding light on the mysteries of our universe.

Stay tuned for what promises to be an extraordinary glimpse into the cosmos!
