Fire Breaks Out at 1750 Taphouse Restaurant in Bedford, Causing Route 101 Closure

Fire at 1750 Taphouse Restaurant in Bedford Forces Route 101 Closure

BEDFORD, N.H. — A fire broke out at the 1750 Taphouse restaurant on Tuesday afternoon, sending plumes of heavy smoke into the air and prompting the closure of a portion of Route 101. Fire officials received reports of the blaze around 1:30 p.m., and upon arrival, firefighters were met with flames and thick smoke billowing from the building.

The fire quickly escalated to a second alarm, leading to a coordinated response from multiple fire departments, including Manchester, Amherst, Merrimack, New Boston, and Londonderry. Deputy Fire Chief Eric Dubowik reported that the fire appeared to have originated in a shed before spreading to the restaurant’s roof.

Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control relatively quickly, even in the absence of sprinklers inside the establishment. Fortunately, there were workers present at the time, but no injuries were reported.

“It’s always a tough time of year,” Dubowik remarked, reflecting on the emotional toll of battling fires during the holiday season. “We’ve done fires on Thanksgiving, Christmas. It’s always tough. We work closely with the restaurant owners to see what we can do to help them out. And hopefully, the public can also help them out, as well. It’d be great.”

While the owners of 1750 Taphouse chose not to comment, they indicated plans to set up a GoFundMe campaign to support their employees during this difficult time.

In response to the incident, the Bedford School Department issued a notice to parents, informing them that Nashua Road from Route 101 to County Road was closed due to the fire. However, they assured that all children and school buildings remained safe.

By late Tuesday afternoon, the roads were reopened, allowing traffic to resume as firefighters continued to assess the damage and ensure the area was secure. The community is now rallying to support the restaurant and its staff as they navigate the aftermath of this unexpected disaster.
