Alabama’s Roads: The Nightmare of I-65

The state of Alabama is facing a major issue with its roads, particularly the heavily traveled I-65 corridor. Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth and state senators are pushing for improvements to the highway, which sees an average of 130,000 vehicles per day. The Alabama State Senate recently passed a resolution urging the Alabama Department of Transportation to prioritize upgrades to I-65 to alleviate traffic congestion and delays.

Governor Kay Ivey has made efforts to improve Alabama’s infrastructure with a gas tax increase, but some believe more needs to be done to keep up with neighboring states like Florida. The Florida Department of Transportation has more funding for road projects in just one division than the entire state of Alabama, leading to questions about why the panhandle of Florida is not part of Alabama.

With the population in the panhandle of Florida expected to grow significantly in the coming years, the need for better road infrastructure in Alabama is becoming increasingly apparent. Residents and travelers alike are feeling the effects of the state’s road conditions, and the push for improvements to I-65 is gaining momentum. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
