Flagstaff’s Shannon Anderson Honored with 2025 Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award

Flagstaff, AZ – In a celebration of public service excellence, Shannon Anderson, Senior Deputy City Manager of Flagstaff, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award. This accolade, presented annually, recognizes the invaluable contributions of Arizona’s civil servants in enhancing community welfare and institutional integrity.

Anderson received the Civic Leader award, a distinction reserved for extraordinary public servants dedicated to uplifting Arizona communities. Since joining the city in 2006, she has championed operational excellence and a people-first approach, significantly improving city services and the quality of life for Flagstaff residents.

“This is truly a great honor for Shannon, and one that is so well deserved,” said Flagstaff City Manager Greg Clifton. “She is an amazing leader, with boundless dedication to this community and to the organization that she serves. We are all so happy for her.”

In her acceptance, Anderson expressed gratitude to the Center for the Future of Arizona and Ross Zimmerman for recognizing her efforts. “I was honored to be nominated and receive the Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award for Civic Leader. It is a privilege to work with the amazing team in Flagstaff in serving our community. Congratulations to all the Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award recipients!” she stated.

The Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Awards honor the legacy of community outreach director Gabe Zimmerman, who tragically lost his life in a mass shooting in 2011. The awards, a collaboration between the Center for the Future of Arizona, the Zimmerman family, and the Arizona City/County Management Association, shine a light on the essential work of non-elected public servants.

Anderson’s recognition not only highlights her commitment to Flagstaff but also serves as an inspiration for others in public service, reinforcing the importance of dedication and collaboration in fostering community growth.
