From Heartbreak to Triumph: How Georgina Tang Built a Beauty Empire to Support Her Son’s Health Journey
Determined Mum Georgina Tang Founded a Beauty Empire at 52 to Help Her Son Through Chemotherapy
Liverpool, UK – In a remarkable story of resilience and innovation, Georgina Tang, 62, has transformed her family’s life by founding a successful beauty brand, YNNY, at the age of 52. Her journey began in 2013 when her son, Alessio, was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), a painful autoimmune disorder that required chemotherapy, leading to distressing side effects like hair loss and psoriasis.
“I tucked him into bed and kissed him goodnight, only to find clumps of hair on the pillow. I broke down in tears,” Georgina recalls. “It was heartbreaking to see my child suffer.” But instead of succumbing to despair, Georgina took action.
Having previously attended workshops on natural skincare, she began experimenting with homemade products. Within a month of using her specially formulated cream, Alessio’s skin cleared up, prompting Georgina to create more products, including shampoos, conditioners, body butters, and massage oils. “It felt like a miracle,” she says. “When people saw his skin and how good it looked, they started asking me what I was using.”
In 2015, Georgina made a bold decision to leave her stable job as a deputy chief executive at a housing association to focus on her burgeoning business. “I knew I had to take a leap of faith,” she explains. “If not now, then when?”
Georgina’s journey has not been without challenges. Originally from Hong Kong, she moved to the UK at 13, leaving home at 15 to work as a live-in “mother’s help.” Despite juggling work and studies, she earned a degree in psychology and sociology, followed by advanced degrees in housing management.
Her life took another turn when she became a mother. Alessio’s birth was fraught with complications, leading to a diagnosis of “Alessio syndrome,” a unique condition that requires constant care. “If I have my last breath, I’d give it to Alessio so he lives,” Georgina says, emphasizing her commitment to her son.
Today, YNNY has blossomed into a six-figure business, offering over 50 products, including the award-winning Elixir anti-ageing serum. The brand has garnered accolades at the National Beauty Awards, winning three awards for Best Hair Product, Best Skincare Product, and Best Beauty Entrepreneur.
“This business provides for our family, and I want to leave a legacy for Alessio when my husband and I are no longer here,” Georgina states, her eyes shining with determination.
Georgina’s story is a testament to the power of love and perseverance, proving that even in the face of adversity, one can create something beautiful.
