Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear to Boost Job Growth with International Trade Mission
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — In a bold move to enhance job opportunities in the Bluegrass State, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is set to embark on an international trade mission next week, targeting the United Kingdom, Ireland, and France. This initiative aims to attract foreign investment and expand the state’s economic footprint in Europe.
During his trip, Beshear plans to engage with business leaders and trade officials, emphasizing the importance of foreign investment in creating jobs for Kentuckians. “New jobs mean more opportunities for Kentucky families to pay the bills and live good lives,” Beshear stated in a recent news release. “My administration has worked hard to secure new investment – including foreign investment, which is essential to our success.”
The governor’s itinerary includes meetings with over 45 companies, 16 of which already operate in Kentucky, employing approximately 4,000 residents. These established firms are also involved in ongoing projects that could potentially generate an additional 2,900 full-time jobs and more than $3.5 billion in investments.
In addition to corporate meetings, Beshear will connect with trade officials from the U.K. and France, the state’s second and third-largest export markets, respectively. This engagement is crucial for fostering relationships that can lead to increased trade and investment opportunities.
Kentucky is home to more than 530 internationally-owned companies, providing jobs for over 115,000 residents. Notably, the state hosts 26 U.K.-based firms employing more than 2,700 people, 40 French-owned businesses with over 5,600 employees, and eight Irish-owned companies employing nearly 1,000 individuals.
As the governor prepares for this pivotal journey, the stakes are high for Kentucky’s economic future. With a focus on attracting foreign investment, Beshear’s mission could pave the way for a more prosperous and job-rich environment for Kentuckians.
