Airbus has unveiled a bold projection for the future of air cargo, predicting a 45% increase in the global freighter fleet over the next two decades. According to its recently released 2025 Cargo Global Market Forecast, the freighter fleet is expected to expand from 2,360 aircraft today to a staggering 3,420 by 2045. This growth will comprise 815 existing aircraft and 2,605 new units, with 1,530 of these replacing older models and 1,075 catering to burgeoning market demands.

The forecast underscores a robust demand for freight transport, which Airbus attributes to global economic activity and trade development. “Freight transport demand will continue to grow in line with global economic activity and trade development,” the report states, highlighting the critical role of air cargo in maintaining supply chain continuity and connecting remote communities to global markets.
