DeKalb, IL – November 6, 2023 – As debates around democracy intensify, the question of whether the Constitution still holds its weight in contemporary society looms large. Join Professor Evan Bernick at the Felmley Science Annex this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. for an insightful discussion as part of the ongoing series “Challenges to Democracy.”

Professor Bernick, a distinguished faculty member at Northern Illinois University’s College of Law, will delve into the relevance of the Constitution in today’s political landscape. With a robust background in constitutional law, Bernick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, having previously served as a visiting professor at Georgetown University Law Center and as the executive director of the Georgetown Center for the Constitution.

Since joining NIU in 2021, Bernick has taught a variety of courses, including constitutional law, criminal law, and administrative law. His scholarship spans a range of topics, from the philosophy of law to social movements, and he has contributed to prestigious publications such as the Georgetown Law Journal and the Notre Dame Law Review. His recent book, The Original Meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment: Its Letter and Spirit, co-authored with Randy E. Barnett, was published by Harvard University Press, underscoring his commitment to scholarly excellence.
