Angel Studios Takes Flight: Utah-Based Company Goes Public to Disrupt Hollywood

New York, NY — In a bold move to reshape the film industry, Angel Studios, the Utah-based company founded by brothers Neal, Daniel, and Jeffrey Harmon, has officially gone public. On Thursday, the trio celebrated their debut on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol ANGX, following a successful SPAC merger that promises to inject significant capital into their mission of producing faith-based and value-centric films.

The Harmon brothers rang the closing bell at the NYSE, marking a pivotal moment for a company that has already made waves with its sleeper hit, Sound of Freedom, which grossed over $250 million globally this summer. The excitement surrounding the IPO was palpable, with shares rising by 10% on their first day, reflecting strong public interest in their vision.

“Hollywood is out of touch with mainstream audiences,” Neal Harmon stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter just before the bell rang. “This is a step in the process for us. We have 1.5 million Angels Guild members who are deciding what content we release, and almost 70,000 investors to provide the liquidity. We have a mission that we’re trying to reach, and we need to fill up the gas tank. That’s what this process has done for us.”

The day’s celebrations included a boat trip to the Statue of Liberty for investors, followed by a private dinner. However, the occasion was tinged with sadness as the brothers mourned the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and friend.

Angel Studios has carved out a unique niche in the film industry, utilizing innovative digital marketing and crowdfunding strategies. Their Angel Guild program allows members to pay a monthly fee for access to releases and a vote in the greenlight process for future projects. This community-driven approach has garnered a loyal following and positioned Angel as a disruptor in an industry often criticized for its disconnect from mainstream values.

“Now that we have the tank full, it’s all about execution,” Harmon added. “We need to grow the Guild to 5 million members and beyond. The price of the stock will take care of itself; we’re focused on long-term growth.”

The company opted for a SPAC merger instead of a traditional IPO, securing a $100 million credit facility with Trinity Capital, resulting in a pro forma enterprise value of $1.6 billion.

Neal Harmon will continue to lead the company as CEO, with Daniel as president and Jeffrey as chief content officer. Angel Studios aims to produce stories that “amplify light” and promote value-driven narratives, with upcoming releases including The Senior, starring Michael Chiklis, and Zero A.D., featuring Jim Caviezel.

The company’s journey began with the collapse of their previous venture, VidAngel, which faced legal battles over copyright issues. Rebranded as Angel Studios in 2021, the brothers shifted their focus to creating original content through equity crowdfunding, despite facing further legal disputes.

As Angel Studios embarks on this new chapter, it is also pursuing an aggressive international strategy to bring its films to audiences worldwide.
