Another Sunny Afternoon with Inland Storms Expected Tuesday Night
FORT MYERS, Fla. — As the sun sets on another warm day in Southwest Florida, residents should prepare for a shift in weather patterns as tropical moisture makes its way back into the region. While today has been marked by clear skies and soaring temperatures, the evening will bring a different story, particularly for those living east of I-75.
Meteorologists are predicting that most of the storms will favor inland areas, with showers and thunderstorms expected to develop as the evening progresses. Current temperatures are hovering around 90 degrees in Cape Coral and 88 degrees in Saint James City, but the humidity is making it feel significantly hotter—up to 101 degrees in some areas.
“Today has been all about the heat,” said Chief Meteorologist Allyson Rae. “But as we head into the evening, expect increasing clouds and the potential for storms, especially near Lake Okeechobee.”
As the night unfolds, residents can anticipate a transition to a more tropical air mass, with rain expected to linger into the early hours of Wednesday. The forecast indicates that Wednesday and Thursday will be mostly cloudy, with highs only reaching the mid-80s, as the influx of tropical moisture continues.
Looking ahead, Friday is expected to bring a return to sunnier skies, although scattered afternoon storms will still be on the radar.
In addition to local weather changes, the tropics are also heating up. A tropical depression could form soon in the central Atlantic, but current models suggest it will remain over open waters. Meanwhile, a new tropical wave is moving off the coast of Africa, which will be monitored closely in the coming days.
As the Atlantic hurricane season continues through November 30, the Gulf Coast Hurricane Team is committed to keeping residents informed. For the latest updates, residents are encouraged to follow Gulf Coast News online and on air.

As we transition into fall, remember: there are only 45 days until Halloween, 72 days until Thanksgiving, and 100 days until Christmas. While the cooler fall air may still be a bit distant, the upcoming showers and storms could provide a brief respite from the heat.
