Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Flood Preparedness at Kaziranga, Deploys Security
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and security of the animals at Kaziranga National Park during the upcoming flood season. In a recent meeting held at Kaziranga, Chief Minister Sarma announced the deployment of three new commando battalions to prevent accidents on the national highway and deter poachers from targeting the wildlife.
Additionally, around 600 personnel from a new forest battalion will be stationed at Kaziranga National Park to enhance protection measures during the flood season. Chief Minister Sarma also addressed the issue of land loss at the park due to river water flow and announced the formation of a joint task force to study the phenomenon and recommend solutions.
To further strengthen surveillance efforts, Chief Minister Sarma revealed plans to deploy 20 marine engine boats in and around Kaziranga to prevent any illegal activities by poachers. The government’s successful eviction of illegal encroachments in the Bura Chapori area has led to wildlife returning to the region, prompting the deployment of a commando battalion for their safety.
With tourist inflow on the rise at Kaziranga National Park, Chief Minister Sarma instructed the Forest Department to create a video documentary showcasing the park’s unique features and other wildlife sanctuaries in the state. The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta.
These proactive measures by Chief Minister Sarma demonstrate the government’s commitment to protecting the rich biodiversity of Kaziranga National Park and ensuring a safe environment for both wildlife and visitors.
