Celebrate Truman Capote: A Thanksgiving Weekend of Staged Readings at Southampton Arts Center
Celebrating Truman Capote: A Thanksgiving Tribute at Southampton Arts Center
Southampton, NY – This Thanksgiving weekend, the Southampton Arts Center will pay homage to one of America’s literary giants, Truman Capote, with a series of staged readings that promise to enchant audiences once again. Following last year’s sold-out performances, the center will present four readings of Capote’s cherished short stories, “One Christmas” and “A Christmas Memory,” from Friday through Sunday.
Set against the backdrop of the Great Depression, these poignant tales draw from Capote’s own childhood in rural Alabama, exploring themes of love, loss, and the enduring power of friendship. The readings offer a unique opportunity to experience Capote’s lyrical prose and rich storytelling in an intimate setting.
Tickets are priced at $25 for general admission and $20 for Southampton Arts Center members, making this a perfect cultural outing for the holiday weekend.
The choice to host these performances in Southampton is particularly fitting, as Capote spent many years living and working in the nearby hamlet of Sagaponack. His ashes, along with those of his longtime partner, novelist and playwright Jack Dunphy, were scattered at Crooked Pond in Bridgehampton, further cementing his connection to the area.
As the community gathers to celebrate Capote’s legacy, attendees can expect an evening filled with nostalgia and reflection, reminding us all of the beauty found in the simplest moments of life.
