Frankfort, Ky. — Secretary of State Michael Adams Named Governing Magazine’s Public Official of the Year

In a significant recognition of his contributions to public service, Secretary of State Michael Adams, R-Ky., has been named Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine, joining an elite group of seven honorees nationwide. This accolade highlights Adams’ commitment to fostering collaboration and effective governance at a time when political polarization is rampant.

Governing Magazine, a respected national publication dedicated to state and local governance, honors officials from both sides of the political spectrum who have made impactful changes for their constituents. Adams is the first Kentuckian to receive this honor in a decade, following Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, who was recognized in 2013.

In a statement following the announcement, Adams emphasized the importance of bipartisanship in addressing the challenges facing the nation. “When people look at Washington and see dysfunction and the federal government literally not working, this is a great reminder that there is another way: toning down the rhetoric and working together to solve our biggest challenges,” he said.

Adams, who is currently serving his second term as Secretary of State after being elected in 2019, has been a proactive leader in expanding early voting options in Kentucky and has taken a strong stance against misinformation regarding election integrity. His efforts have been crucial in reinforcing public trust in the electoral process.

This latest recognition adds to Adams’ growing list of accolades, including the prestigious JFK Profile in Courage Award from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation in 2024. His leadership has not only been about improving voting access but also about condemning political violence, as seen in his responses to recent tragic events involving public figures.

Governing Magazine, established in 1987, provides in-depth analysis and insights into the workings of government, covering a wide range of topics from finance to infrastructure. Its team comprises seasoned journalists and policy experts dedicated to informing and empowering public officials and citizens alike.

As Adams continues to navigate the complexities of his role, his recognition as Public Official of the Year serves as a testament to the positive impact that dedicated public servants can have in their communities and beyond.
