LaChanze Launches New Production Company: LaChanze Productions

Tony Award winner LaChanze is making headlines once again, but this time it’s not for her captivating performances on Broadway. LaChanze is stepping into a new role as she launches her own multimedia production company, LaChanze Productions.

The company’s mission is to produce Broadway and other commercial theater projects, focusing on original works that showcase new talent on the stage. While the current projects in development are plays and musicals, LaChanze Productions also has plans to expand into film and television.

LaChanze, known for her Tony Award-winning performance as Celie in the 2005 revival, has a long history on Broadway, including originating the lead role in “Once on This Island” in 1990 and starring in the recent revival of “Trouble in Mind.” In addition to her acting career, LaChanze has been involved in producing on Broadway, with credits including “Kimberly Akimbo,” “TopDog/Underdog,” “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding,” and “The Outsiders.” She is also the president of Black Theatre United, advocating for equality and inclusion in the industry.

In a statement, LaChanze expressed her excitement about this new venture, saying, “Since 2009, I have wanted a seat on the other side of the table. My love for this industry coupled with my advocacy to develop new audiences has inspired me to launch LaChanze Productions. I hope to bring a unique perspective to each project we produce and look forward to continuing to build this company with passionate individuals.”

Some of the titles currently in development by LaChanze Productions include “Love Warrior,” a one-man show about triumphing over trauma with Daniel “Koa” Beaty, and “Reunion at Bartersville,” a whodunnit involving senior citizens set for a private industry reading on June 13.

With LaChanze’s talent and passion for the arts, LaChanze Productions is sure to make a significant impact on the theater world, bringing fresh and diverse stories to the stage.
