Proposed Garbage Collection Fee Increase and Service Changes in Vicksburg, MS.
The Mayor of Vicksburg, MS, has announced proposed changes to garbage collection fees for residents and commercial businesses in the city. In a press release, Mayor Flaggs stated that residents may soon be required to cover half of the cost of residential trash pickup, with monthly fees increasing from $16.50 to $21. Additionally, Waste Management will now charge for the pickup of limbs and debris, a service that was previously included.
Residents are encouraged to report overflow, debris, and limbs for pickup by calling the Action Line, with the city committing to collecting these items within seven business days. The city will also provide additional brown trash cans for a fee of $25.50, while small businesses outside of downtown can purchase extra bins at the same rate.
For commercial businesses in downtown Vicksburg, the fee for garbage collection will be $40.15 per bin per month, with services provided four times a week. Mayor Flaggs emphasized that these changes are necessary to maintain a high level of service and effective waste management.
Residents in need of additional trash cans or replacements are advised to contact the Water and Gas Department, while further inquiries can be directed to Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. Overall, the city is asking for understanding and cooperation during this transition period.
