Rahul Gandhi’s Veiled Jibe at Narendra Modi’s Remarks on Mahatma Gandhi: ‘Only a Student of Entire Political Science’ Would Need to Watch the Film

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a subtle dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments about Mahatma Gandhi, sparking a war of words between the two political figures. In response to Modi’s assertion that the world only became aware of Mahatma Gandhi after the release of the 1982 film “Gandhi,” Rahul Gandhi wrote in Hindi, “Only a student of ‘Entire Political Science’ would need to watch the film to know about Mahatma Gandhi,” seemingly referencing Modi’s academic background.

The Prime Minister’s remarks during an interview with TV news channel ABP, where he questioned whether it was the nation’s responsibility to promote Mahatma Gandhi’s global recognition in the last 75 years, drew criticism from many. Rahul Gandhi’s pointed response added fuel to the fire, highlighting the ongoing political tensions between the two leaders.

The backlash against Modi’s comments continued, with Congress leader Pawan Khera and senior party member Jairam Ramesh also weighing in on the debate. Khera sarcastically remarked that if it weren’t for the statues of Mahatma Gandhi already installed around the world, Modi might have been pushing for statues of actor Ben Kingsley, who portrayed Gandhi in the film.

Ramesh further criticized the Prime Minister, accusing his government of destroying Gandhian institutions in various cities. The exchange of barbs between the Congress and BJP leaders underscores the deep-rooted ideological differences and political rivalry in Indian politics.

As the war of words intensifies, the focus shifts to the upcoming general elections and the implications of this verbal sparring on the political landscape. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
