New Grooming Innovation: The FyBro Offers Barbershop Freshness at Home
Indianapolis, IN – In a world where personal grooming is paramount, a new product is revolutionizing how men maintain their hairstyles between barbershop visits. The FyBro, a premium grooming system created by Indianapolis native Aaron Russell, allows users to achieve a fresh lineup from the comfort of their own homes.
Russell conceived The FyBro in 2022 after struggling to find a DIY hairline product that met his needs. Frustrated by the lack of options, he designed a single-use stick-on hairline stencil that, when paired with spray-on hair fibers, replicates the polished look of a professional barbershop lineup.
“Barbers use hair fibers to build volume around the hairline, creating a defined look with electric trimmers,” Russell explained. “But most guys lack the skills to replicate this at home, and there were no tools available to help them do it.”
Most men typically visit the barber every two weeks, but as hair begins to grow back, confidence can wane. “After a few days, you start to feel less confident,” Russell noted. The FyBro aims to bridge that gap, providing a solution for men who want to maintain their appearance without frequent trips to the barber.
Unlike traditional stencils, The FyBro features a unique stick-on design that conforms to the natural shape of the forehead. “You apply a holding spray to create a tacky base, then spray the hair fibers around the light spots,” Russell explained. “When you remove the stencil, you’re left with a perfectly straight line.”
Russell’s entrepreneurial journey began in his youth, taking on odd jobs to earn money. He later studied accounting at Ball State University and worked at a major accounting firm. However, he soon realized that a traditional desk job wasn’t his calling. In 2015, he started offering online music lessons, which became profitable and allowed him to pursue his dream of entrepreneurship.
When he first shared his idea for The FyBro with his wife, Chandice Tyson-Russell, she was initially surprised but quickly became a supporter. “Once he explained the impact it would have, not just for him but for many men and women, I was sold,” she said. “I knew there would be a need for it, especially in the Black and brown community.”
In 2023, Russell showcased his prototype at Impact Indiana’s PitchFeast, impressing judges and securing a $10,000 grant to help launch The FyBro. The product gained traction, particularly on social media, where women expressed interest in purchasing it for their husbands and sons.
The FyBro is not intended to replace barbers but rather to complement their services. A typical lineup can cost between $15 and $40 and lasts only a few days. The FyBro offers a cost-effective alternative for maintaining a fresh look between visits.
As sales grew, Russell expanded his product line to include beardline and side hairline stencils, a FyBro-branded hair fiber spray, and an applicator pump. “It’s not just about creating wealth,” he said. “It’s about building confidence, much like Madam C.J. Walker did for women in her time.”
