Southwest Airlines Launches Seasonal Nonstop Flights from Pittsburgh to Destin-Fort Walton Beach
Pittsburgh, PA – In an exciting development for travelers, Southwest Airlines has announced the launch of seasonal nonstop flights connecting Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to Destin-Fort Walton Beach International Airport (VPS). The new service is set to commence on June 6, operating every Saturday through August.
This addition marks a significant expansion for Southwest, as it becomes the airline’s seventh nonstop Florida destination from Pittsburgh, joining popular spots like Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Orlando. Tickets for the new route are now available for purchase on Southwest.com.
According to Blue Sky News, which covers updates from Pittsburgh International and Allegheny County airports, Allegiant Air already provides twice-weekly nonstop service to Destin-Fort Walton Beach from April through October. However, the introduction of Southwest’s flights is expected to enhance travel options for those seeking sun-soaked beaches and vibrant coastal activities.
Joe Rotterdam, the director of air service development at Pittsburgh International Airport, expressed enthusiasm about the new route. “We’re excited to see Southwest continue growing in Pittsburgh and building on two decades of success in our region,” he stated. “The addition of service to Destin-Fort Walton Beach and expanded flights to Orlando and San Diego shows Pittsburgh’s strong support for Southwest, enhancing connectivity to in-demand destinations in Florida and on the West Coast.”
With this new route, Destin-Fort Walton Beach becomes Southwest’s 21st destination at PIT, solidifying the airline’s position as the largest carrier at the airport. This expansion not only reflects the airline’s commitment to serving the Pittsburgh community but also highlights the increasing demand for travel to Florida’s beautiful beaches.
