Tubi Expands Its Reach in Canada with Strategic Partnership with Bell Media
In a significant move to strengthen its foothold in the Canadian streaming landscape, Tubi, the ad-supported streaming service owned by Fox Corp., has announced a groundbreaking content distribution and ad sales agreement with Bell Media. This partnership aims to enhance Tubi’s offerings while providing Bell Media with new avenues for growth in an increasingly competitive market.
The collaboration will see both companies co-develop original content for global distribution on Tubi, as well as across Bell Media’s platforms in Canada. Additionally, Bell Media will become Tubi’s exclusive ad sales partner in Canada, while launching its own ad-supported FAST channels on the Fox streaming platform.
“This partnership is a powerful growth opportunity that aligns with Bell Media’s strategic goals,” said Sean Cohan, president of Bell Media. “It enhances our ability to connect advertisers with Canadian consumers through premium digital video, expands our content distribution, and fosters collaboration on storytelling that resonates globally.”
This deal comes at a time when Canadian viewers are increasingly turning to streaming platforms, prompting a shift in the television landscape. The partnership builds on a previous licensing agreement between Bell Media and Fox Entertainment Global, which has already yielded the drama series Prejudice, created by Celeste Parr and featuring Emily VanCamp.
Under this expanded agreement, Tubi, Fox, and Bell Media will share the costs and risks associated with producing TV series in Canada, leveraging local tax credits and currency advantages. The resulting content will be available on both linear TV and streaming platforms across the U.S.-Canadian border, enhancing cross-border viewership.
As Tubi continues to carve out its niche in the crowded Canadian streaming market, it faces stiff competition from established players like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. However, with Bell Media’s backing and a commitment to original content, Tubi is poised to become a formidable contender.
Bell Media, which holds a minority stake in Montreal-based indie producer Sphere Media, is also forging partnerships with notable names in the industry, including Elliot Page’s Pageboy Productions and Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures. This strategic alliance with Tubi is expected to bolster Bell Media’s content offerings while providing Tubi with a robust platform for growth in Canada.
As the streaming landscape evolves, this partnership marks a significant step for both Tubi and Bell Media, promising to deliver compelling content to Canadian audiences while creating new opportunities for advertisers in the digital space.
