Wallace evaluates the proposed business registration ordinance

Wallace City Council Holds Workshop on Proposed Business Registration Ordinance

The Wallace City Council recently held a special meeting to discuss the proposed Business Registration Ordinance, which aims to provide the city with information about businesses operating within its limits. The ordinance is intended to help coordinate emergency responses and ensure compliance with zoning codes.

Chief John Miller of the Shoshone County Fire Protection District #1 highlighted the need for the ordinance, citing instances where businesses were operating in ways not approved or zoned for. While he believes these actions were unintentional, he emphasized the importance of enforcing codes for public safety.

However, the ordinance has faced opposition from some members of the community who feel it may be intrusive and are concerned about potential annual registration fees. The city council has taken these concerns into consideration and decided to send the document back to legal counsel for amendments.

The next meeting of the Wallace City Council is scheduled for September 11th, where further discussions on the ordinance are expected. For more information, the full proposed ordinance can be found on the city’s website.
