Weather Update: Excessive Heat Warning Extended through Friday

Las Vegas is in the midst of a scorching heatwave, with temperatures soaring well above normal for this time of year. The city is currently under an Excessive Heat Warning, with highs reaching a staggering 115 degrees today, breaking a record set just last year.

The heat is expected to continue through the end of the week, with temperatures forecasted to reach as high as 118 degrees tomorrow. The National Weather Service has extended the Excessive Heat Warning until Friday, as the “heat dome” remains stationary over southern Nevada.

However, relief may be in sight as the weekend approaches. The “heat dome” is expected to move north and east, bringing an increase in monsoon moisture and the possibility of rain showers. While the highest rain chances will be in Mohave County, Las Vegas may also see some storms, particularly in the local mountains.

Despite the potential for cooler temperatures over the weekend, Las Vegas is on track to break another record. If temperatures remain at or above 110 degrees through Sunday, it will mark 12 consecutive days in the 110s, surpassing the previous record set in 2023.

In addition to the extreme heat, residents are also advised to be cautious of moderate air quality due to ozone levels. As the heatwave continues, it is important for everyone to stay hydrated, seek shade, and take precautions to stay cool. Stay tuned for updates on the weather and stay safe in the heat.
