BBC Studios and South Korean Agency KOCCA Partner to Expand Korean Television Content Production and Distribution

In an exciting new development for the global television industry, BBC Studios has announced a groundbreaking partnership with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) to enhance the production, investment, and distribution of Korean television content. This collaboration aims to address the challenges faced by the domestic broadcast and video content production environment in South Korea, such as rising production costs and a decrease in documentary programming.

KOCCA, along with BBC Studios and Southeast Asian streaming platform Viu, plans to secure genre diversity in K-content and facilitate stable overseas expansion through their combined expertise and global streaming platforms. BBC Studios, known for its content production and distribution across 55 channel feeds worldwide, is eager to bring factual K-Content to audiences across Asia and beyond. Viu, operating in 16 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, is committed to providing viewers with high-quality Korean programs.

Ryan Shiotani, senior vice president of content at BBC Studios Asia, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “South Korea is a dynamic creative industry, and we know there are lots of brilliant Korean stories waiting to be told to a wider audience. Our new collaboration with KOCCA to develop, co-produce, and distribute Korean documentaries will contribute to the future of the global broadcast and video content industry.”

Viu’s chief operating officer, Lofai Lo, also emphasized the significance of the partnership, saying, “This agreement goes beyond mere business cooperation; it represents a long-term partnership aimed at leading the future of the global broadcasting content industry.”
