Kristen Bell: From “Veronica Mars” to Emmy Nominee for “Nobody Wants This”
Kristen Bell Shines with Emmy Nomination for ‘Nobody Wants This’ After ‘Veronica Mars’ Breakout
Kristen Bell is making waves in Hollywood once again, earning her first Emmy nomination for her role in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This. This recognition comes after a stellar career that began with her breakout role in the cult classic Veronica Mars, where she captivated audiences as the titular high school sleuth.
Created by Rob Thomas, Veronica Mars premiered on September 22, 2004, and quickly became a fan favorite. The series followed Bell’s character, a teenage detective navigating the complexities of high school while working at her father’s private investigation agency, all while grappling with the tragic murder of her best friend, Lilly. The show featured a talented ensemble cast, including Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, and Enrico Colantoni, with Amanda Seyfried making memorable appearances as Lilly.
Reflecting on her time in the series during its 20th anniversary, Bell shared, “Veronica Mars allowed me to discover who I am and what I’m good at.” She also described the experience as “the hardest job I have had to date,” recalling the grueling 17-hour shooting days before union regulations were strictly enforced.
Despite its outlandish plot twists, critics praised Bell’s performance, with THR noting that her portrayal made the storylines “somehow make perfect sense.” The series ran for three seasons on UPN and later the CW, followed by a successful 2014 film funded through Kickstarter, which raised over $5 million. In a unique twist, NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar even made his TV writing debut with the show’s 2019 revival on Hulu.
Now, Bell is back on the small screen with Nobody Wants This, which explores the interfaith relationship between agnostic podcaster Joanne (Bell) and rabbi Noah (Adam Brody). The series has garnered three Emmy nominations, including Best Comedy Series and acting nods for both Bell and Brody.
“I’ve never gotten a response to any show I’ve ever been a part of like this show,” Bell remarked about Nobody Wants This, which is set to return for its second season in October. “This is very much uncharted territory for me.”
As Bell continues to evolve as an actress, her journey from Veronica Mars to her latest Emmy-nominated role showcases her versatility and enduring appeal in the entertainment industry. With the new season on the horizon, fans eagerly await to see where her talent will take her next.
