Weather Alert: Scattered Showers Expected This Afternoon and Evening

Forecast: Scattered Showers Expected Monday Afternoon and Evening

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Residents of Southwest Florida should brace for a soggy start to the week, as scattered showers and thunderstorms are set to roll in Monday afternoon and continue into the evening. Meteorologists are predicting periods of heavy rain and thunder, which could impact the evening commute.

As an area of low pressure drifts closer to the Gulf Coast, it will bring increased humidity and elevated rain chances across the region. “Expect scattered downpours throughout the afternoon, with a 60% chance of rain,” said Chief Meteorologist Allyson Rae. “If you’re heading out for lunch or after work, it’s a good idea to keep an umbrella handy.”

The rain is expected to begin affecting areas near JetBlue Park, moving toward Corkscrew and Estero. Heavy downpours are also anticipated in Charlotte County, particularly around Babcock Ranch. Residents should be prepared for potential flooding, especially in low-lying areas, as rainfall could reach up to an inch in some spots.

Temperatures will remain warm, hovering in the upper 80s to low 90s, but the rain will help keep things slightly cooler. “While some areas may feel like they’re hitting the triple digits due to humidity, the rain will provide some relief,” Rae added.

Looking ahead, the wet weather pattern is expected to persist through the workweek, with similar rain chances forecasted for Tuesday and Wednesday. However, there is a glimmer of hope for sunshine by the weekend, as rain chances are projected to decrease, potentially leading to clearer skies on Sunday.

In the tropics, conditions remain unusually calm for this time of year, with no significant developments expected over the next week. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, and residents are encouraged to stay informed through local news outlets.
