Grupo Boticário Unveils Innovative Hair Science and Research Center in Brazil

São José dos Pinhais, PR – In a groundbreaking move for the beauty industry, Grupo Boticário has officially launched its Hair Science and Research Center, dedicated to pioneering advancements in hair and scalp care through scientific innovation and sustainability.

Located in São José dos Pinhais, the center aims to delve deeply into the complexities of hair health, focusing on the development of proprietary technologies and new active ingredients. A key area of research is the hair microbiome, with the goal of creating personalized and environmentally responsible solutions for consumers.

One of the center’s standout discoveries is a unique microalgae found in the fresh waters of the Brazilian Cerrado. This remarkable organism boasts compounds that can protect skin color by up to 95% and enhance its resistance by 33%. Leveraging this discovery, scientists have developed BioRadiance, an active ingredient produced through a biotechnological process in controlled bioreactors. This innovative method minimizes the need for extensive natural extraction, promoting sustainability and consistency in ingredient quality.

Marcela De Masi, Executive Director of Branding and Communication at Grupo Boticário, emphasized the significance of this initiative. “The creation of the Hair Science and Research Center is a milestone for the Group and for the beauty market. We are building a solid scientific basis to deepen knowledge about hair care,” she stated. De Masi highlighted the role of science in driving innovation, asserting that ongoing investment in hair science is essential for transforming knowledge into market differentiation.

The center operates on four primary fronts: hair diversity, scalp health, personalization through advanced technology, and sustainability. It also aims to foster education and disseminate scientific knowledge, training professionals and strengthening ties within the academic and industrial communities.

Among the innovative projects underway are 3D Skin with Follicle bioprinted technology, which allows for ethical and accurate testing of hair products, and a comprehensive mapping of the Brazilian scalp microbiota, conducted in collaboration with the SENAI Institute for Innovation in Embedded Systems. Additionally, research involving bioinformatics and genetic sequencing is being pursued to gain insights into hair health over time, enabling increasingly precise recommendations for consumers.

As Grupo Boticário embarks on this ambitious journey, the Hair Science and Research Center stands poised to redefine the future of hair care, merging scientific rigor with a commitment to sustainability and consumer well-being.
