Tragic Death of British Man at Istanbul Hair Transplant Clinic Sparks Investigation
Istanbul, Turkey – A British man, Martyn Latchman, 38, tragically died after falling ill at a hair transplant clinic in Istanbul, raising concerns and prompting an investigation by Turkish authorities. Latchman, originally from Milton Keynes, had traveled to Turkey for a second hair transplant procedure at the Dr. Cinik clinic, where he had previously undergone a similar operation last summer.
According to the clinic, Latchman became unwell during the preparation stage of the procedure and was immediately provided with emergency medical care. Despite being transferred to a nearby university hospital for intensive treatment, he sadly passed away later that day. The clinic emphasized that all necessary medical evaluations, including blood work and ECG, were conducted prior to the surgery, and that he was cleared for the procedure by an anaesthesiologist.
In a statement, the clinic clarified that reports suggesting Latchman died during the operation were incorrect, asserting that the incident occurred before the hair transplant began. “The reasons for his sudden illness remain unknown,” the clinic stated, adding that all medical records related to the case have been shared with authorities.
Latchman had recently transitioned from a 16-year career in education, where he served as an assistant headteacher and head of computer science at Goldington Academy in Bedford, to a role as a defense contractor. His family revealed that he had invested approximately £1,500 (about Rs 1.73 lakh) for the procedure.
The Foreign Office has confirmed that they are supporting Latchman’s family and are in contact with local authorities regarding the investigation. His body has since been returned to the UK.
Friends and family have taken to social media to express their grief. Yashley Latchman, a relative, shared a heartfelt tribute, stating, “Rest in peace, my brother. You will forever be my source of inspiration and motivation. Thanks for everything. Will miss you loads.”
Dr. Cinik clinic, known for its high-profile clientele, including international footballers, has performed over 70,000 hair transplant procedures. As the investigation unfolds, the clinic has requested privacy for Latchman’s family and stated that no further details will be disclosed at this time.
The tragic incident has raised questions about the safety protocols in place at cosmetic surgery clinics, particularly those catering to international patients. As authorities continue their investigation, many are left wondering how such a devastating event could occur in a facility with a seemingly strong track record.
