MCG Issues Helpline Numbers and Assigns Ward-wise Responsibilities for Waterlogging Management in Gurugram

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is taking proactive steps to address the perennial issue of waterlogging in the city. In a bid to manage and tackle water drainage problems effectively, the MCG has issued helpline numbers and assigned ward-wise responsibilities to officials.

Following a day-long effort by the civic body to assess preparations, MCG Commissioner Narhari Singh Bangar acknowledged the need for improved measures to combat waterlogging during the monsoon season. The corporation has deployed a range of resources, including earthmovers, suction tankers, pumps, engines, and manpower to ensure proper drainage and prevent water accumulation.

To enhance the effectiveness of these measures, assistant engineers and junior engineers have been assigned ward-wise responsibilities to oversee drainage management in their allocated areas. Residents are encouraged to report waterlogging issues through the designated helpline numbers and WhatsApp, with photos and locations.

Despite these efforts, some residents remain skeptical about the effectiveness of MCG’s initiatives. President of Sector 46 RWA, Rajkumar Yadav, expressed doubts about the long-standing issue being resolved this year. Similarly, resident Isha Tyagi emphasized the importance of implementation in addressing waterlogging problems.

The MCG commissioner has called upon former corporation councillors, RWA representatives, social activists, volunteers, and citizens to actively monitor drainage arrangements in their areas and report any issues promptly. The recent heavy rainfall in Gurugram resulted in severe waterlogging at multiple spots across the city, causing traffic jams and power outages in various areas.

As the monsoon season progresses, the MCG’s efforts to manage waterlogging will be closely monitored by residents and stakeholders. With clear roles assigned and helpline numbers in place, the corporation aims to address water drainage issues swiftly and effectively to ensure the smooth functioning of the city during the rainy season.
