Monterrey: A Rising Star in the Global Tech Ecosystem
Monterrey, Mexico – As the sun rises over the bustling city of Monterrey, it casts light on a burgeoning hub of technology, talent, and entrepreneurship. Despite its rapid growth, the region faces significant challenges in fostering cohesive connections among startups, corporations, investors, and research institutions. This fragmentation hinders the potential for technology transfer and market scaling, limiting Monterrey’s ability to fully harness its rich talent and research base.
To combat these obstacles, various initiatives are emerging, focusing on structured platforms that promote collaboration and attract diverse stakeholders. The aim is to create an integrated ecosystem where entrepreneurship, corporate innovation, and investment converge, driving sustainable regional growth.
One of the key players in this transformation is incMTY, an initiative spearheaded by Tecnológico de Monterrey. Serving as a central platform, incMTY connects innovation actors, entrepreneurship programs, and investment channels. “Our goal is to stimulate the region’s development by linking major companies with innovators through open innovation challenges,” stated Josué Delgado, CEO and Co-Founder of incMTY, during the recent Mexico Business Summit 2025.
Building a Cohesive Innovation Ecosystem
incMTY aligns with the Monterrey Innovation District (DI), which focuses on three critical indicators of a knowledge-based economy: attracting entrepreneurs and tech companies, creating innovation-intensive jobs, and facilitating technology transfer through intellectual and industrial property development. Delgado emphasized, “The knowledge economy is built on three elements: the construction of networks, the use of physical spaces, and leveraging economic elements to attract visionaries and startups.”
The initiative operates through four main components designed to amplify its impact:
- Open Innovation Challenges: Facilitating collaboration between corporates and startups.
- incMTY Festival: An annual flagship event promoting networking and ecosystem growth.
- Future Now: Tech and Talent Fair: Focused on talent acquisition and career development.
- Community Programs: Building sustained engagement among ecosystem participants.
Since its inception in 2013, incMTY has connected nearly 100,000 attendees and over 130,000 community members, providing startups, corporates, and investors with acceleration programs and competitions that offer millions in resources and prizes.
Intelligent Specialization and Global Partnerships
Beyond fostering collaboration, incMTY promotes intelligent specialization to enhance the region’s strengths. “This approach allows Monterrey to channel its industrial capabilities and academic resources toward sustainable innovation and human capital development,” Delgado explained.
The initiative also extends its reach internationally. Collaborating with the World Bank, incMTY is working to streamline supply chains and incorporate small producers. “We mapped these small producers and launched a pilot project,” Delgado shared. Additionally, partnerships with tech giants like Meta aim to leverage AI tools to support innovators and startups.
With partnerships spanning over 40 countries, incMTY connects Mexico’s ecosystem with global innovation and investment opportunities. Focus industries include fintech, healthtech, mobility, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability, with a growing emphasis on corporate innovation and artificial intelligence.
A Vision for the Future
By combining targeted strategies, multidisciplinary programs, and global connectivity, incMTY exemplifies how a central innovation platform can accelerate regional economic development. “Through our vision and partnerships, Monterrey is poised to become one of Latin America’s leading technology and innovation hubs,” Delgado concluded.
As Monterrey continues to evolve, its potential as a strategic player in the global tech landscape becomes increasingly evident. With initiatives like incMTY at the forefront, the city is not just dreaming of a brighter future; it is actively building it.
