Injuries and Roster Changes Impacting the Rays

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

The Tampa Bay Rays are facing a series of injuries that are impacting their roster and delaying the return of some key players to the field. From top prospects to seasoned veterans, the Rays are dealing with a variety of ailments that are keeping them sidelined.

One of the notable injuries is to INF Junior Caminero, who sustained a Grade 2 left quad strain while playing for Triple-A Durham. Caminero, who is ranked No. 1 on the Rays’ Top 30 Prospects list, is expected to miss four to six weeks, pushing back his anticipated return to the Majors.

OF Josh Lowe is also dealing with a right oblique strain, which has sidelined him for the second time this season. Despite making progress in his recovery, Lowe is expected to return in early to mid-June, after resuming baseball activities and undergoing a cortisone injection.

RHP Zach Eflin is another player on the injured list due to lower back inflammation. Eflin, who has been playing catch and is scheduled for a bullpen session, is expected to return in early to mid-June, depending on his symptoms.

LHP Colin Poche is working his way back from mid-back tightness, with a likely return in June. Poche has been making progress in his recovery, including throwing bullpen sessions and receiving injections in his back.

SS Taylor Walls is on the road to recovery from right hip surgery, with a likely return in June. Walls, who underwent surgery to repair a labral tear, has been playing rehab games in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.

LHP Jeffrey Springs is facing a setback in his rehab from Tommy John surgery, as he experienced left shoulder tightness during a recent appearance. Despite the setback, Springs is expected to return possibly in July, depending on his recovery.

RHP Drew Rasmussen is recovering from a right flexor strain and is expected to return in late 2024. Rasmussen underwent a season-ending procedure and is progressing well in his rehab.

RHP Jacob Waguespack is dealing with right rotator cuff inflammation and his return date is to be determined. Waguespack was moved to the 60-day IL and is slated for catch play as he works towards his return.

LHP Brendan McKay is on the Minor League injured list with a left elbow injury and is expected to possibly return in late 2024. McKay is undergoing rehab for a flexor/pronator strain and UCL sprain.

LHP Shane McClanahan is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is likely to return in 2025. Despite his progress in rehab, McClanahan is expected to miss the entire season.

The Rays are navigating through these injuries as they aim to stay competitive in the tough American League East division. With key players on the mend, the team is looking forward to their return to the field to bolster their lineup and pitching staff.
