Iris Ventures Invests in Goddess Maintenance Co.: Pioneering Bioprotection in Hair Care
Iris Ventures Invests in Goddess Maintenance Co.: A New Era for Hair Care
LONDON — In a significant move for the beauty and biotech industries, Iris Ventures has announced a multimillion-dollar minority investment in Goddess Maintenance Co., a pioneering company dedicated to enhancing the long-term health and vitality of hair. This partnership is poised to reshape the landscape of professional hair care.
Founded by a dynamic team of four entrepreneurs, Goddess Maintenance Co. is spearheaded by beauty industry veterans Denise Russell and Edward Connaghan, who played pivotal roles in the success of renowned brands like Olaplex and K18. Joining them are sisters Lauren Vesler and Manda Mason, cofounders of the popular Ohio-based W Nail Bar chain.
At the heart of Goddess’s innovation is a newly trademarked hair care category known as “bioprotection.” Their flagship products feature the proprietary Goddess molecule, designed to fortify hair’s natural structure, shield it from environmental and chemical damage, and ensure lasting vitality. Developed in collaboration with biomaterials innovation company Bolt, the formulation mimics the strength and flexibility of spider silk, creating a protective scaffold around hair strands that penetrates the cuticle and cortex for comprehensive repair.
In a recent interview, Russell described the formula’s unique “chain mail” effect, which not only enhances manageability but also reduces styling time and prolongs salon finishes. The company made waves earlier this year with the launch of its first product, the BioTech Blowout Leave-in Restorative Mask, which has already gained traction in over 100 countries, establishing a robust presence in professional salons worldwide.
Vesler, the CEO of Goddess, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Iris Ventures, stating that while they weren’t actively seeking investment, the firm’s deep expertise in beauty and commitment to innovation aligned perfectly with their mission. “Iris’s unique industry know-how and passion for what we’re building created the ideal opportunity to scale our vision globally,” she said.
The investment will be directed towards accelerating Goddess’s innovation pipeline, expanding salon partnerships, and enhancing its global footprint. Iris Ventures, known for its focus on founder-led brands in beauty, wellness, and lifestyle, is currently launching its second fund, targeting 200 million euros.
Montse Suarez, founder and managing partner at Iris, emphasized Goddess’s role at the forefront of science-led beauty, stating, “They are delivering a true breakthrough and creating an entirely new category in professional hair care.” She praised the company’s proprietary molecule and deep salon roots, highlighting their ambition as a game-changer in the market.
Marc Calzada, an investor at Iris, echoed this sentiment, noting that Goddess’s “visionary leadership and magnetic brand identity” are set to redefine the industry. “The founding team is an absolute powerhouse with the drive, expertise, and bold vision needed to lead the future of professional hair care. We are thrilled to be part of their journey,” he added.
As Goddess Maintenance Co. prepares to embark on this exciting new chapter, the beauty industry watches closely, eager to see how this innovative partnership will transform hair care for professionals and consumers alike.
