James Remar: A Veteran Actor’s Resurgence in 2025
In a career spanning over four decades, James Remar is experiencing a remarkable resurgence in 2025, captivating audiences with his diverse roles across multiple high-profile projects. The veteran actor, known for his compelling performances since the 1970s, has been making headlines as he takes on a variety of characters in both film and television.
This year, Remar has showcased his versatility in several notable productions. He portrays a vindictive soon-to-be ex-husband opposite Judith Light and Naomi Watts in Hulu’s All’s Fair, steps into the military boots of General Francis Shaw in It: Welcome to Derry, and reprises his iconic role as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father, in Dexter: Resurrection. His busy schedule follows the completion of The Odyssey, a collaboration with acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, who recently shared insights about the highly anticipated film.
At the world premiere of All’s Fair on October 16, Remar took a moment to reflect on his whirlwind year. “I started Welcome to Derry as I finished Dexter: Resurrection, then went off to do Nolan’s movie, and now I’m here with everything debuting,” he shared, clearly relishing the moment.
Remar’s collaboration with Nolan has been particularly rewarding. “It was all that much better,” he said, recalling his initial audition during the pandemic. “We eventually got to meet without masks on the Universal lot, which is how he does it. He shoots film through a camera, not digital.”
The actor also praised Nolan’s intense work ethic, noting, “He never sits down. He stands next to the camera for every single shot. It was freezing in Iceland, but he was always focused.”
As for his role in All’s Fair, Remar described his character as a wealthy man grappling with heartbreak as his estranged wife, played by Light, seeks to leave him. “You can see his heart break a little when she leaves,” he explained, emphasizing the emotional depth of the character amidst the trappings of wealth and public scrutiny.
This marks Remar’s first collaboration with Ryan Murphy, who directed All’s Fair. “He knows what he wants but is very calm and collaborative,” Remar noted, appreciating Murphy’s approach to direction.
Fans of the It franchise are eagerly anticipating Welcome to Derry, and Remar is no exception. “What I have seen is some of the best television I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s phenomenal,” he enthused.
As 2025 unfolds, James Remar continues to prove that talent and dedication can lead to new heights, captivating audiences with every role he takes on. With a busy slate ahead, it’s clear that this veteran actor is far from finished, and his journey is one to watch.
