James Talarico Secures 100 Endorsements from Texas Elected Officials in U.S. Senate Bid
James Talarico Gains Momentum with 100 Endorsements in Texas Senate Race
Austin, TX — In a significant boost to his campaign, Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful James Talarico announced on Tuesday that he has secured endorsements from over 100 elected officials across Texas, including 19 from the Dallas area, traditionally a stronghold for rival candidate Colin Allred.
Among the notable endorsements is U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson, who represents the congressional district Allred flipped from red to blue in 2018. Talarico’s support also includes six Texas House Democrats: John Bryant and Aicha Davis of Dallas, Linda Garcia of Mesquite, Cassandra Garcia Hernandez of Farmers Branch, Terry Meza of Irving, and Ramon Romero of Fort Worth. Local government officials, such as Dallas County Commissioner Andy Sommerman and Dallas City Council member Jaime Resendez, have also thrown their weight behind Talarico.
“I’m honored to have the trust and support of more than 100 local elected officials from every corner of Texas,” Talarico stated in a news release. “From El Paso to Beaumont, from our biggest cities to our smallest towns, these leaders know their communities best, and I’ll be listening to them every step of the way as we build a Texas that actually works for working people.”
Talarico, a state representative from Austin, has also demonstrated strong fundraising prowess, amassing $6.2 million in just four weeks since his campaign launch on September 9. In comparison, Allred raised $4.1 million during the same period, highlighting the competitive nature of the race.
Allred, a former congressman and the Democratic nominee against Republican Ted Cruz in 2024, has been in the Senate race since July 1. His campaign recently showcased new endorsements from Houston, including U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher and state Reps. Charlene Ward Johnson and Alma Allen, as well as Houston City Council member Ed Pollard.
The endorsements for Talarico signal a potential challenge for Allred in the Dallas area, where he has been a prominent figure since winning District 32 in 2018. Talarico’s growing support suggests that he may be gaining traction among key Democratic leaders in the region.
Johnson’s endorsement is particularly noteworthy, as she is the only member of Congress to back Talarico. Her support could provide Talarico with valuable connections and fundraising opportunities. “I have seen firsthand his skill as a legislator, his talent as a communicator, and his compassion for the people of Texas,” Johnson remarked, emphasizing Talarico’s commitment to addressing the needs of Texans.
As the race heats up, both candidates are vying for the Democratic nomination in the March primary, with the filing period set from November 8 to December 8. The eventual nominee will face the winner of the Republican primary, which includes incumbent John Cornyn, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt.
With the stakes high and the competition fierce, Talarico’s early endorsements and fundraising success position him as a formidable contender in the race for the U.S. Senate seat. As both candidates continue to rally support, Texas voters will be watching closely to see how this dynamic unfolds in the coming months.
