Legacy Hair & Beauty Supply: A New Haven for All in Eau Claire

Eau Claire, WI – In a vibrant move to foster inclusivity and meet the diverse needs of the community, TaNevia Johnson has opened the doors to Legacy Hair & Beauty Supply at 2404 London Road. This expansion, which took place in spring 2023, marks a significant step forward for a business dedicated to providing quality hair care products and services for everyone.

Having called the Chippewa Valley home for over a decade, TaNevia’s journey began while she was studying psychology at UW-Eau Claire. It was during this time that she recognized a glaring gap in resources for Black hair care. “When I went to college here, no one did hair braiding, so I had to learn how to do my own hair beyond the basics,” she recalls. “Eau Claire is getting more diverse, but we need a safe space for everybody.”

Legacy Hair & Beauty Supply started in a modest location on Menomonie St., but TaNevia’s vision was always grander. “I felt limited in what I could do; I didn’t have the space to make it where everyone could get their products in one location,” she said. The new location allows her to create a one-stop shop for health and beauty, catering to a wide range of customers.

The shop now offers an expanded selection of products and services, including hair braiding, eyelash and eyebrow services, and haircuts and coloring for all genders. “I think my youngest client is two years old, and I have a client who’s 80,” TaNevia shared, emphasizing her commitment to serving all ages and backgrounds.

As a mother of two, TaNevia brings a nurturing spirit to her business. “My vision has always been that there could be a mom with a child of a different ethnicity, and they can get their hair done and their products in the same place,” she explained. Her background in managing restaurants and retail has equipped her with the skills necessary to create a welcoming and collaborative work environment.

Legacy Hair is also home to The Twisted Scissor Salon, further enhancing its ability to meet diverse beauty needs. TaNevia’s passion for hair braiding is evident as she describes the joy of transforming clients’ looks and boosting their confidence. “Hair braiding has really taken off,” she said. “I love that transformation.”

The shop’s own line of products, including the popular Length by Legacy hair oil, has attracted a diverse clientele. “It works for all hair textures and types,” TaNevia noted, highlighting its use by individuals with alopecia, those undergoing cancer treatment, and even parents looking to help their children’s hair grow back after a DIY haircut.

As Legacy Hair approaches its third year, TaNevia faces the ongoing challenge of spreading the word about her inclusive space. “This is a welcoming space for all cultures, people, men and women – no matter who you are,” she said. “Once the community knows that, I think the response will be even better.”

TaNevia’s journey as an entrepreneur has taught her the value of perseverance. “People see the success but don’t see the hard work behind it,” she reflected. “I’m showing up whether I make $1 or $500 that day.”

Legacy Hair & Beauty Supply is not just a business; it’s a community hub where everyone is welcome. “I think once people step foot in here, they’ll see it’s a place for everyone,” TaNevia said.
