Illinois Governor Pritzker Responds to Trump’s Plan for Military Deployment in Chicago

Illinois Governor Pritzker Condemns Trump’s Plan to Deploy Armed Forces in Chicago

Chicago, IL — In a dramatic escalation of tensions between state and federal authorities, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced on Tuesday that he has learned of President Donald Trump’s intention to deploy armed military personnel to Chicago. Pritzker accused the federal government of failing to coordinate with local law enforcement, raising concerns about the implications for community safety.

“At a news conference, Pritzker warned that Chicago could soon witness a repeat of the federal presence seen in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.,” he stated. “We expect to see federal agents and military vehicles positioned on federal property, such as the Great Lakes Naval Base.”

The governor indicated that the agents likely to be deployed will come from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security, with many being relocated from Los Angeles, where they were previously dispatched amid protests over immigration enforcement. Pritzker also suggested that the Texas National Guard may be staged for deployment in Illinois.

Adding to the alarm, Pritzker described reports of “unidentifiable” agents in unmarked vehicles, allegedly planning to conduct raids in Latino communities under the guise of targeting “violent criminals.” He emphasized that the majority of those affected are not violent offenders. “Instead, you’ll see videos of them hauling away mothers and fathers traveling to work or picking up their kids from school,” he lamented.

The governor expressed his commitment to fighting the troop deployment in court, stating, “We will do everything possible to ensure that agents operating inside the confines of this state do so in a legal and ethical manner.”

Pritzker’s remarks come after the head of the Illinois State Police received a phone call from Customs and Border Protection indicating that ICE officers would be deployed to Chicago—marking the first communication from the Trump administration on this issue.

“We have gathered information from unauthorized patriotic officials inside the government and from well-sourced reporters about Trump’s plan,” Pritzker revealed. “Fighting crime requires coordination. We have experienced nothing like that over the past several days and weeks.”

As tensions mount, the governor’s office has reached out to the White House for comment but has yet to receive a response. The situation continues to evolve, with many Chicago residents and local officials expressing deep concern over the potential impact of federal military presence in their communities.
