The ongoing standoff centers around whether to renew these vital subsidies, which assist individuals who purchase health coverage through marketplaces rather than through employer-sponsored plans or government programs.

The subsidies, initially established under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and later expanded under President Biden, are now at risk of expiring. Experts warn that failure to renew them could lead to approximately 2 million more Americans becoming uninsured as early as next year, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
