Jannik Sinner Triumphs at Paris Masters, Reclaims World No. 1 Ranking
Jannik Sinner Clinches First Paris Masters Title, Reclaims World No. 1 Ranking
Paris, France – In a thrilling showdown at the Paris Masters, Jannik Sinner emerged victorious on Sunday, defeating Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7/4). This win not only marks Sinner’s first title at the prestigious tournament but also sees him reclaim the top spot in the ATP rankings, a position he initially held for 65 weeks before being dethroned by Carlos Alcaraz.
With Alcaraz’s early exit from the tournament, Sinner’s triumph in Paris guarantees his return to the pinnacle of men’s tennis when the ATP rankings are updated on Monday. The 24-year-old Italian had previously reached the number one ranking in June 2022, but lost it after a hard-fought five-set final against Alcaraz at the US Open last September.
“This victory is particularly fulfilling for me,” Sinner expressed. “I knew from the beginning of the week that there was a chance to regain my ranking. But before every match, I focus on delivering my best performance, and whatever comes, comes.”
Sinner’s journey to this title has been remarkable, especially considering he faced a three-month hiatus earlier this year due to two positive tests for clostebol. Despite this setback, he has bounced back with five titles this season, including prestigious wins at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

For Auger-Aliassime, the final was a bittersweet moment. Despite falling short of the title, his performance has kept him in contention for a spot in the ATP Finals later this month. Currently ranked ninth, he remains a strong candidate for the eighth and final slot, thanks to his impressive run in Paris, which has put him ahead of Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the race for Turin.
As the ATP Finals approach, Sinner will head into the tournament, scheduled for November 9-16, with the coveted title of year-end number one on the line, setting the stage for an exciting showdown between him and Alcaraz.
With his first 1000-level title since Shanghai last October now under his belt, Sinner’s victory in Paris not only solidifies his status as a top contender but also reignites the fierce rivalry between him and Alcaraz, promising thrilling matches ahead in the world of tennis.
