St Andrews Links Trust Announces Record Year for 2023

St Andrews Links Trust Reports Record Year in 2023

St Andrews Links Trust, the organization responsible for managing the iconic golf courses in St Andrews, has announced a record-breaking year in 2023. The demand for golf at the historic venue reached unprecedented levels, resulting in a surge in revenue across all facilities.

A total of 283,082 rounds were played at the St Andrews courses, marking an 11% increase from the previous record set in 2019. Course occupancy also reached a record high of 78% across the seven courses. The St Andrews Links Golf Academy saw a significant increase in activity, with 7.6 million balls hit, two million more than the previous record.

The surge in demand can be attributed to the global growth of golf, as well as a pent-up desire for experiential travel following Covid restrictions. Local ticketholders also showed an increased appetite for play after two years of limited access to the courses.

The Trust reported a record £44m in operating revenue and an £11.5m operating profit for 2023, a significant improvement from the losses incurred in 2020 and 2021. All profits are reinvested into the maintenance and preservation of the links at St Andrews.

Neil Coulson, Chief Executive of St Andrews Links Trust, expressed pride in the Trust’s performance, stating, “These unprecedented results for 2023 underline the renown in which the Home of Golf is held both here in St Andrews and around the world. The demand, not just on our golf courses but across all facilities, has been incredible and has significantly accelerated our recovery from a difficult period in 2020 and 2021.”

The Trust plans to invest in upgrading infrastructure, including irrigation systems, the Links Clubhouse, and the Golf Academy. They also aim to enhance sustainability and coastal management measures to protect the coastline from erosion and climate-induced flood risk.
