Featured Screening of Ti West’s “Maxxxine” Surprises Horror Fans
The highly anticipated slasher movie “Maxxxine” surprised horror fans with an early screening, thanks to filmmaker Ti West and A24. The event, initially billed as a double feature of West’s “X” horror series, turned into a thrilling night for attendees.
The audience, comprised of film nerds and horror enthusiasts, eagerly awaited the screenings of “X” and “Pearl,” the movies that propelled Mia Goth into the spotlight as Hollywood’s new killer queen. However, during a Q&A session moderated by Lily Collins, the unexpected twist was revealed.
Collins, alongside West, announced that instead of watching “Pearl,” the audience would be the first to see “Maxxxine.” The crowd erupted in cheers and excitement, with some gasping in disbelief. West jokingly warned them not to spoil the surprise.
Prior to the reveal, West shared insights into the making of the trilogy, including the challenges of filming during the pandemic and working with Goth in her dual role in “X.” The success of the “X” movies, which blend elements of backwoods horror and 1970s porn films, has been a pleasant surprise for A24.
“Pearl,” released as a prequel to “X,” showcased Goth’s talent in multiple roles and set the stage for her return in “Maxxxine.” Set in 1980s Hollywood, the film follows the surviving character from the first movie as she navigates the VHS-driven porn industry and faces a looming threat from her past.
A24 is set to release “Maxxxine” on July 5, promising audiences a thrilling and chilling experience. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new addition to the horror genre.
