University of Kansas Launches True Blue Certificate in Banking with Generous Gift from Capitol Federal Foundation
LAWRENCE, KS — The University of Kansas (KU) School of Business is set to launch its new undergraduate certificate program, the True Blue Certificate in Banking, thanks to a generous gift from the Capitol Federal Foundation of Topeka. This initiative, supported by KU Business alumnus John B. Dicus, chairman, president, and CEO of Capitol Federal, aims to enhance educational opportunities in the banking sector.
The True Blue Certificate, officially launching in fall 2025, is designed to prepare students for successful careers in commercial banking. The program’s name reflects Capitol Federal’s commitment to honesty, integrity, and stability—values that resonate deeply within the banking community.
“We are excited for the opportunity to introduce KU Business students to the banking profession through the curriculum of the True Blue Certificate in Banking,” Dicus stated. “Banks play a vital role in the success of our Kansas communities, and we are proud to play a role in educating and cultivating future generations of bankers.”
The endowed funding from the Capitol Federal Foundation will establish a program director position and support student engagement initiatives, ensuring that the curriculum is both industry-focused and relevant. With a strong banking presence in Kansas, the program aims to cultivate emerging professionals who will contribute to the state’s financial institutions and overall economic development.
Dean of the KU School of Business, Jide Wintoki, expressed gratitude for the foundation’s support. “The School of Business is deeply grateful to the Capitol Federal Foundation and to John Dicus for their generous investment in our students and in the future of banking in Kansas and beyond,” Wintoki said. “This certificate reflects our shared commitment to preparing principled, community-focused professionals.”
The Capitol Federal Foundation has a long-standing history of supporting community initiatives, focusing on education, community development, and housing. Notably, in 2012, the foundation made a significant $20 million lead gift toward the construction of Capitol Federal Hall, the home of the KU School of Business.
As the True Blue Certificate in Banking prepares to launch, it promises to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in diverse markets, ultimately strengthening the financial landscape of Kansas and beyond.
