Trump Claims U.S. Targeted Another Vessel Suspected of Smuggling Drugs from Venezuela

Trump Administration Targets Venezuelan Drug Traffickers with Military Strikes

U.S. Military Strikes Again at Venezuelan Drug Traffickers, Raising Legal Concerns

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a bold move against drug trafficking, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military targeted a boat allegedly transporting narcotics from Venezuela, resulting in the deaths of three individuals aboard. The strike, which occurred on Monday, follows a similar operation two weeks prior that claimed 11 lives.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the threat posed by “narcoterrorists” operating in international waters, labeling their activities as a “DEADLY WEAPON POISONING AMERICANS!” He asserted that these violent drug cartels jeopardize U.S. national security and foreign policy.

The recent military action is part of a broader strategy by the Trump administration to combat the influx of illegal drugs into the United States. The earlier strike targeted the Tren de Aragua gang, a Venezuelan organization designated as a terrorist group by U.S. officials. However, Trump did not clarify whether this gang was also the target of Monday’s operation.

While the administration defends these strikes as necessary escalations, they have drawn criticism from both sides of the aisle. Several senators have expressed concerns over the legality of using military force for law enforcement purposes, questioning whether such actions represent an overreach of executive authority.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has argued that the drug cartels pose an “immediate threat” to the nation, framing the strikes as acts of self-defense. Speaking to Fox News, Rubio reiterated the administration’s stance against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whom he described as the head of a drug cartel rather than a legitimate leader.

Despite the administration’s claims, reports indicate that the targeted boat was turning back to shore when it was struck. Rubio, however, dismissed these claims, insisting that decisive action is necessary against drug trafficking vessels, regardless of their course.

As the U.S. continues to ramp up military operations against drug cartels, the implications of these actions remain a contentious topic in Washington. With calls for accountability and legal clarity growing louder, the administration faces mounting pressure to justify its military strategy in the fight against drug trafficking.

As the situation unfolds, the Trump administration remains committed to using “all elements of American power” to combat the cartels that threaten American communities. The question now is whether this approach will garner the necessary support or lead to further scrutiny of executive military actions.
