This announcement came during a summit in Alaska on August 15, where Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed critical issues surrounding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Trump revealed that both leaders had “largely agreed” on the necessity of Western troop presence in Ukraine to ensure a lasting peace. However, he clarified that the U.S. would not directly supply weapons or troops to Ukraine but would instead sell arms to European nations for their use in supporting Kyiv.
The discussions included contentious topics such as potential land swaps and security assurances. Trump emphasized the need for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to consider a deal, highlighting the stark power imbalance between Russia and Ukraine.
