Ambassador Husam Zomlot Urges U.S. to Uphold Peace Commitment Amid Ongoing Conflict in the Middle East

Ambassador Zomlot Urges U.S. Action for Peace Amid Ongoing Conflict

London, UK — In a passionate appeal for peace, Palestinian Ambassador to the U.K., Husam Zomlot, called on President Trump to fulfill his commitment to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during an interview with CBS News on Tuesday. Speaking from the Palestinian mission in London, Zomlot emphasized the urgency of U.S. involvement in what he described as a “real international quest” to end the ongoing violence against the Palestinian people.

“We hope the U.S. will join this international momentum,” Zomlot stated, highlighting the critical need for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders. “If not now, when? If not during the middle of a genocide, the most atrocious attack against the Palestinian people… when?” His remarks come as the conflict escalates, with the U.S. recently vetoing a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, a move Zomlot criticized as counterproductive.

The ambassador’s comments reflect a growing frustration with U.S. foreign policy, which has historically favored Israel. “It doesn’t help,” he said, pointing to the detrimental effects of U.S. vetoes on Palestinian sovereignty. “It plays into the hands of the extremists in the Israeli government.”

Zomlot recounted his meetings with Trump, recalling the former president’s repeated assertions of his desire to be a peacemaker. “I want him to stick to that promise,” Zomlot urged, insisting that immediate intervention is necessary to halt the violence. “It’s under his watch.”

The Israeli government has vehemently denied allegations of genocide, dismissing claims from a U.N. expert panel as unfounded and based on Hamas propaganda. Israeli officials maintain that their military operations comply with international law and are aimed at ensuring national security.

As the conflict continues to unfold, Zomlot’s call for U.S. leadership in peace negotiations resonates with many who are advocating for a resolution to the decades-long struggle. “The U.S. must be part of the solution, not part of the problem,” he concluded, underscoring the critical role that American diplomacy could play in achieving lasting peace in the region.
