IATSE and AMPTP reach “tentative agreement” on Hollywood Basic contract renewal

IATSE and AMPTP Reach Tentative Agreement for Hollywood Basic Agreement Renewal

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have reached a tentative agreement for the renewal of their Hollywood Basic Agreement contract. This news comes after ongoing talks resumed on Monday and a deal was struck late on Tuesday.

The Hollywood Basic Agreement covers approximately 50,000 behind-the-scenes film and television workers in Los Angeles across the 13 West Coast Studio Locals of IATSE. The current three-year agreement is set to expire on July 31, and negotiations had been ongoing for nearly four months.

The proposed deal includes scale rate increases of 7%, 4%, and 3.5% over the new contract’s three-year term, as well as triple time pay for hourly workers when a day exceeds 15 elapsed hours. Additionally, the agreement includes new protections around Artificial Intelligence to ensure that no employee is displaced by AI prompts.

While the tentative agreement is still pending ratification by union membership, a detailed summary will be provided to union members and signatory companies in the coming days. Both IATSE and the AMPTP are now focused on closing negotiations for the Area Standards Agreement, which covers the 23 union Locals operating in the rest of the US.

This agreement is a significant development in the entertainment industry and will hopefully prevent any potential labor stoppages that could disrupt Hollywood productions. Members of the union and industry stakeholders are eagerly awaiting the finalization of the agreement in the coming weeks.
