New UC President James B. Milliken expressed concern over the funding cuts, stating, “These cuts do nothing to address antisemitism. Moreover, the extensive work that UCLA and the entire University of California have taken to combat antisemitism has apparently been ignored.” He warned that the suspension of funds could hinder innovative work that is crucial for public health, economic growth, and national security.
The Trump administration’s approach to UCLA mirrors its previous actions against private colleges, where federal funding has also been frozen over similar allegations. Last month, Columbia University settled for $200 million to resolve investigations into its alleged violations of federal antidiscrimination laws, restoring over $400 million in research grants.
