Delhiwale: Exploring a Door in Bulbuli Khana | Latest News from Delhi

Exploring the Artistic Details of a Dilapidated Old Delhi Doorway in Bulbuli Khana

The dilapidated doorway in Old Delhi’s Bulbuli Khana is a hidden gem of artistic beauty, often overlooked by passersby. Despite the scorching heat, the lane remains deserted, with only a cheerful goat and a bubbling chai pot at Wasim Bhai’s tea stall as witnesses to the day’s oppressive weather.

Within the doorway, however, life thrives. Two young laborers, Wasim Akram and Omar, work and reside in a darkened room behind the intricate entrance. Wasim is busy manufacturing “jhunjhuna” toys for children, while Omar rests on the matted floor, seeking respite from the heat.

The room, surprisingly cool despite the weather outside, is adorned with scrawled mobile phone numbers of previous occupants. Wasim and Omar have called this place home for three years, employed by a mysterious “maalik.”

As the sun-soaked silence of the street is interrupted by the cry of a recycler, Wasim emerges briefly, reminiscing about his village near Calcutta and the beautiful doorways he has seen there.

The dilapidated doorway in Bulbuli Khana may seem like a portal to a vanished world, but for Wasim and Omar, it is a place of work, rest, and a connection to their past.
