Pennsylvania Democrats Celebrate Wins in Key Counties, Eye Midterm Momentum
Pennsylvania Democrats Eye Midterm Momentum After Off-Year Election Wins
Harrisburg, PA — The Pennsylvania Democratic Party is seizing on recent electoral victories in traditionally Republican strongholds, asserting that these results signal a promising path forward as the midterm elections approach. In a memo released today, party chairman Eugene DePasquale emphasized the significance of last week’s off-year elections, where Democrats triumphed in key swing and red counties that had previously backed Trump in 2024.
Democrats celebrated substantial wins in three judicial retention races and downballot elections across 15 counties, including pivotal areas like Bucks, Erie, Luzerne, and Northampton. Notably, victories were also recorded in historically Republican regions such as Lancaster and Beaver counties.
“This is bad news for the Pennsylvania Republicans who have completely embraced Trump and the most unpopular elements of Washington politics,” DePasquale stated. He pointed to rising costs, corruption, and threats to democracy as issues that will resonate with voters in the upcoming elections. “The GOP candidates up in 2026 have championed an agenda of chaos and high prices, and they will be held responsible for it with Pennsylvania voters.”
In last week’s elections, Democratic candidates secured victories by margins ranging from 3 to 15 points in counties like Beaver, Berks, and Cumberland—areas that Trump had won in previous elections. These results are particularly significant as some of these counties are poised to host competitive U.S. House races next year, which could play a critical role in determining congressional control.
DePasquale specifically targeted Republican incumbents Brian Fitzpatrick, Scott Perry, Rob Bresnahan, and Ryan Mackenzie, suggesting that their alignment with Trump’s policies could be detrimental to their electoral prospects.
However, the Pennsylvania GOP is not backing down. Communications director James Markley responded to the memo, suggesting that Democrats are overreacting to their recent successes. “They’ve not had much to cheer for in recent years, so we should not be surprised that they’re using last week’s election results as an opportunity to vent years of pent-up frustration,” he remarked.
Markley asserted that in 2026, voters will prioritize issues such as lower prices, community safety, and improved quality of life, areas where he believes Republicans hold a distinct advantage. “The PA GOP is ready, and we welcome the 2026 election,” he concluded.
As both parties gear up for the midterms, the stakes are high in Pennsylvania, a battleground state that could prove pivotal in shaping the political landscape for years to come. With Democrats riding a wave of recent victories and Republicans vowing to reclaim lost ground, the upcoming elections promise to be fiercely contested.
