Sony Pictures Networks India Appoints Gaurav Banerjee as New CEO

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has made a significant move by appointing Gaurav Banerjee, formerly of Disney Star, as its new chief executive officer. This decision comes after NP Singh’s announcement to step down after 25 years at Sony. Banerjee, who oversaw content for Hindi entertainment and Disney+ Hotstar at Disney Star, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

Starting his career as a journalist at Aaj Tak, Banerjee later joined Star News in 2004 as a prime-time anchor and senior producer. His pivotal role in launching the Bengali news channel Star Ananda in 2005 showcased his leadership abilities. Transitioning to Star India in 2008, Banerjee played a key role in expanding the network’s regional entertainment channels, leading to the successful launch of Star Jalsha in Bengal and Star Pravah in Maharashtra.

Banerjee’s impact continued to grow as he was appointed head of content strategy for Star Plus in 2009. Under his leadership, the channel saw a resurgence with popular shows like Diya Aur Baati Hum and Sasural Genda Phool, reclaiming its leadership position in 2010. His success led to promotions within the company, ultimately culminating in his appointment as the CEO of SPNI.

With a master’s degree in filmmaking and TV production from Jamia Milia Islamia University and a background in history from St Stephens College, Banerjee is well-equipped to lead SPNI into a new era of growth and innovation. His track record of strategic content planning and channel revitalization makes him a valuable addition to the Sony Pictures Networks India team.

As Banerjee takes the helm at SPNI, industry experts and viewers alike will be watching closely to see how his vision and leadership will shape the future of the network. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the world of Indian entertainment.
