India and Singapore Forge Stronger Trade Ties: Piyush Goyal’s Vision for Future Collaboration
New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) — In a significant move to enhance economic relations, India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called for greater collaboration between businesses in India and Singapore. Speaking at the “India-Singapore@60: Partnership for Growth and Innovation” event, Goyal emphasized the need for a more balanced and inclusive economic partnership that is ready to tackle future challenges.
During his three-day visit to Singapore, Goyal highlighted the importance of business-to-business (B2B) opportunities, stating that stronger ties between the two nations could significantly boost trade and investment. “We must leverage our strengths to create a more robust economic framework,” he noted in a post on X.
On the sidelines of the event, Goyal engaged with senior officials from several prominent Singapore-based firms. His discussions included a meeting with Kim Yin Wong, Group President and CEO of Sembcorp, where they explored collaboration in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and the development of industrial parks. “India’s achievements in renewable energy are remarkable, and we have ambitious goals ahead,” Goyal remarked.
Further discussions with Loh Chin Hua, CEO of Keppel, revolved around emerging opportunities in India, particularly in sectors like waste-to-energy, infrastructure, data centers, and digital connectivity. Goyal also met with a delegation led by Nags Sankaranarayanan, CEO of Nomura Asia Pacific Holdings, to discuss boosting India-focused investments and the vast opportunities available for global investors.
In another pivotal meeting, Goyal spoke with Gautam Banerjee, Chairman of Blackstone Singapore, focusing on long-term capital investments in manufacturing-linked infrastructure to strengthen supply chains. He also had a productive dialogue with Jim Coulter, Executive Chairman of Texas Pacific Group (TPG), centering on enhancing cross-border investments and unlocking new growth avenues for both nations.
As India and Singapore celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations, Goyal’s visit marks a renewed commitment to fostering a dynamic and innovative partnership that promises to benefit both economies. With a focus on sustainability and technological advancement, the future looks bright for India-Singapore trade relations.
