Greens pose a strong challenge to ‘timid’ Labour in election launch

Green Party Launches General Election Campaign Targeting ‘At Least Four’ MPs

The Green Party has launched its general election campaign with a bold target of securing “at least four” MPs in the upcoming election. Party co-leader Carla Denyer criticized Labour’s “timid” plan for government and emphasized the need for a strong Green presence to push for bolder action on climate, the NHS, and housing.

With the Conservatives “clearly on their way out”, the Greens are focusing their campaign on challenging Labour. They plan to field candidates in every constituency in England and Wales for the July 4th election, with a particular focus on four seats they see as winnable.

The party kicked off its election campaign in Bristol, where they now lead the council after winning 10 new seats in the 2024 local elections. Candidates like Adrian Ramsay and Sian Berry are hoping to make an impact in their respective constituencies, advocating for real change and bold actions.

The Green Party’s manifesto includes proposals to build 150,000 new council homes, end the Right to Buy, reverse NHS privatization, and introduce a Nature Act to protect the natural world. They also aim to reform Nato and commit to no first use of nuclear weapons if elected.

Stay tuned for a full list of parliamentary candidates for all constituencies on the BBC news website once nominations have closed. The Green Party is gearing up for a strong campaign to make their mark in the upcoming election.
