Curly Hair Salon: Revolutionizing Curly Cuts in California
New Curly Hair Salon in California Aims to Revolutionize Curl Cuts
Fullerton, CA — A new salon dedicated exclusively to curly hair is making waves in California, promising expert-level curl cuts without the usual uncertainty that often accompanies finding a stylist for textured hair. Curly Hair Salon, founded by renowned curl specialist Dusty Schlabach, has opened its doors in Fullerton, offering a unique approach to curly haircuts.
Spanning over 2,000 square feet, the salon boasts a team of seven stylists, each rigorously trained through a four-week “bootcamp” focused solely on the art of cutting curly hair. This initiative aims to eliminate the frustrating game of “curly hairstylist roulette” that many curly-haired individuals face when seeking a haircut.
Schlabach, who previously launched Thairapy Salon in South Pasadena and the online tool CurlMaps, recognized the persistent challenges curly-haired consumers encounter when it comes to haircuts. “There’s just this big disconnect from an accessibility standpoint when it comes to being able to get a good curly haircut — not a cut that you have to grow into, but one that works out of the gate,” he explained. His Instagram account, which boasts 1.1 million followers, features transformation videos that showcase the salon’s expertise.
Despite the growing popularity of specialized curly hair services, many stylists have long waitlists, leaving clients frustrated. “A lot of the time, you either have the stylist that you wish you could get in with but you can’t because they’re not taking new clients, or there’s the salon that’s cool and can get you on the waitlist, but service will cost you hundreds of dollars,” Schlabach noted.
At Curly Hair Salon, clients can choose from four types of haircuts, each priced at $75 and scheduled for a 45-minute appointment. Options include “Just a Trim” for a light dusting, the “Shape Up” for added volume, a bang and face-framing cut, and the “Big Chop” for those looking to make a significant change. Each haircut is performed on dry hair, allowing clients to arrive with their hair styled as they normally would.
“We want to see what your curl pattern looks like when you style it with what you style it with, so that the cut you get is exactly what you’re going to have when you wash and style it again,” Schlabach emphasized. Notably, the salon does not have hair-washing basins or sell products, focusing solely on the haircut experience.
In its inaugural year, Curly Hair Salon aims to serve approximately 13,000 clients, a significant number compared to Thairapy’s nearly 20,000 annual clients. Schlabach has plans for expansion, eyeing locations outside California, with Texas being a potential next stop.
“So many curly girls don’t know what they’re capable of in terms of what they can ask for from a haircut,” Schlabach said. “Curly Hair Salon is there to make great curly haircuts accessible to everyone, availability-wise and price point-wise.”
As the salon opens its doors, it promises to be a game-changer for curly-haired individuals seeking expert care and a welcoming environment. With its innovative approach, Curly Hair Salon is set to redefine the curly haircut experience in California and beyond.
